Collectors Club Meeting August

Meeting was well attended with several items for show. 

Craig brought a Pieper-Bayard Model 1908. This is a Belgian designed and manufactured pistol in .32ACP. This pistol is in remarkable condition with the bluing deep and the markings crisp. The under-barrel design makes it a unique piece in any collection and showcases just some of the characteristics of early European pocket pistols. 

Gary brought a Steyr M1912. Manufactured in 1917 and chambered in 9x23mm Steyr, this pistol was used by the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1914-1945 as well as by several other countries. It has a unique design with a rotating barrel mechanism which is uncommon. 

Pete brought an M96/38 Swedish Mauser. This rifle was originally made in 1917 by Carl Gustaf as an M96 before being converted to an M38 Short Rifle around 1940 by the Swedish Army, of note was the early style of rear sight conversion which was dropped in favour of a ballistics conversion chart on later rifles. Pete’s rifle is in good condition with all the hallmarks of having seen a Swedish arsenal refurbishment program. 

Rhys brought a French Berthier Mle-16. This rifle is a good example of what most French Army units were equipped with at the outbreak of war in 1939 with all of the postwar upgrades present. This rifles receiver is marked “Continsouza”; a Gramophone and Cinematography company that was contracted during WW1 to make and supply receivers to the Châtellerault Arsenal.
