Meet the Team: Ean

Ean’s shooting story started in the bush and grew from there. After seeing shooters at his local Newcastle range, he decided to give benchrest a proper go and quickly found himself hooked.

His proudest moment so far came in 2024 at Millmerran, when he achieved Hall of Fame status. A milestone that capped off years of hard work and dedication.

The one bit of gear Ean cannot do without is his 3-lug Bat, a trusty piece of kit that keeps him competitive. He is not one for rituals or superstitions, he prefers to just get on with it.

For Ean, the toughest part of the sport these days is the toll of age. He admits he gets a bit more tired than he used to, but that is about it.

When it comes to inspiration, Ean does not have to look far. His son Darren has been a terrific support, and Ean counts him as one of his biggest motivators.

After a big competition, Ean keeps things simple. He just stops, switches off, and takes the time to relax.

As for other sports or hobbies, Ean says he has not really done much else outside of shooting. Benchrest has been the passion that stuck. His advice to anyone starting out is straightforward: buy something decent from the start so you are competitive right away, spend the money and do it properly.

Representing Australia is something Ean is very proud of. Competing on the world stage means a great deal to him, and he is especially thrilled to be doing it for the second time in St Louis.
